Filmmakers have to rack their brains to produce quality, but also profitable, films. One genre of film that is loved by many people is a superhero.

As you know, Marvel Studios and DC Studios are film production studios that often release superhero films. Both of them present many amazing superhero figures.

Despite the negative sentiments of a number of Hollywood filmmakers, superhero films are still the favorite spectacle of many people. Films in this genre have also succeeded in resurrecting the world film industry in 2021, which had slumped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason is, hero-themed films can almost always dominate the world's box office.

Therefore, it is not surprising that in 2022 we will be able to see more superhero films again throughout the year. The series of films again comes from the Marvel or DC universe. Interestingly, this row of films that are ready to be released throughout 2022 is not only in the form of live-action but also animation.

This is the golden era of superhero movies. At least the era of superhero films has started in 2000 with the appearance of the first X-Men film. Since the 2010s era, superhero films have become increasingly dominant at the box office and it seems that it will continue because the majority of viewers seem to really enjoy this genre of film. Talking about superhero films, there are several superhero films whose projects were canceled even though they were preparing to be produced. Canceled for various reasons and ultimately never produced. Well, here are 10 superhero films whose projects were canceled.

Spider-Man 4

It seems almost all Spider-Man fans know why this film was canceled. Namely because of the resignation of Sam Raimi from the director's chair and followed by Tobey Maguire regarding the failure of Spider-Man 3. The film was canceled by Sony in 2009 and was rebooted into The Amazing Spider-Man.

Spider-Man 4 should have spawned enemies of The Lizard and the Vulture.

Batman Unchained

Batman & Robin (1997) is a shattered film and the weirdest Batman film ever. Joel Schumacher as the director should have one more project, namely Batman Unchained which should be released around 2000. The villain in this film is planned to be Scarecrow, played by Nicholas Cage.

But because Batman & Robin was already damaged, the production of Batman Unchained was canceled.

Superman Lives

Before the Superman Returns project was done, the studio actually planned to reboot Christopher Reeves' Superman after the failure of Superman IV.

Superman Lives was supposed to be released in 1998 with Tim Burton directing and Nicholas Cage playing Superman. But in the end, this project was canceled because the studio did not want to take the risk of loss after the failure of Batman & Robin.

Justice League Part 2 & 3

A sad fact for DC fans. There should have been three Justice League films but two sequels were canceled after the first film failed in the eyes of critics. The film Justice League (2017) did reap problems because of the change of director from Zack Snyder to Joss Wheedon in the middle of the production period.

Zack Snyder's cut version which was released 4 years later, although successful, did not make WB want to continue the Justice League project.

Power Rangers 2

Power Rangers (2017) isn't really that bad, but maybe the benefits aren't as much as the studio would like. This film will actually bring up a sequel as seen at the end of the film where there will be a 6th Rangers, namely Tommy Oliver.

Power Rangers 2 was simply canceled until the Power Rangers license was bought by Hasbro and the plan was to reboot.

Batman 3 Tim Burton

Tim Burton's versions of Batman, namely Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) are two cool and dark Batman films. Initially, Burton was going to direct the third film, but the studio intervened and wanted the third to be bright and kid-friendly considering the first two films were so gloomy and dark.

Burton did not agree and chose to resign. The Batman 3 version was never produced and was replaced by Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever.

X-Men Origins: Magneto

After X-Men The Last Stand (2006) the studio plans to make X-Men solo films and X-Men Origins: Magneto is one of them. But because of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), the results were mediocre or even poor, so the entire origins project was canceled and replaced by X-Men: First Class which was a huge success.

Deathstroke

Deathstroke is planned to be one of the DCEU projects after this character appears in the Justice League credits scene. The plan Deathstroke will be directed by Gareth Evans who was successful through two films The Raid.

Due to the failure of the Justice League and the lack of clarity from the DCEU, news of the Deathstroke film has become increasingly unheard of.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was canceled because Sony Pictures was not satisfied with the results of the previous two films and preferred to work with Marvel Studios to get Spider-Man into the MCU.

However, word got out that TASM 3 will be continued after Andrew Garfield's appearance in No Way Home. Whether it's true or not, it's just a rumor.

The Batman Ben Affleck

What makes DCEU even more confusing is that its films are mostly rebooted. WB prefers to reboot Batman through Robert Pattinson's The Batman instead of making Ben Affleck's solo Batman film linked to the DCEU. Yes, although Pattinson's The Batman was a success too.
